Cuines Santa Caterina

Cuines Santa Caterina is a popular option in Santa Caterina market, Barcelona

This place is hugely popular, and it’s easy to see why. Eat in the restaurant, at the bar, or al fresco on a nice day, but be aware – it’s a tapas menu at the bar and outside, while the indoors dining area has the full menu.

The kitchen turns out an odd array of dishes, from Spanish standards to Thai noodles and sushi. Needless to say we stick with the Spanish.

Butifara sausage, foie and Santa Pau beans at Cuines Santa Caterina. Awesome

The Catalan sausage with foie gras and Santa Pau beans is a standout on a menu that’s generally winners.

Bambarol Bar Restaurant

Bambarol specilaises in good Catalan food, well executed

We’re not supposed to tell you about Bambarol – sworn to secrecy and all that. (Though it is all over the usual tourist websites). Expect very well executed seasonal Catalan specialties, along with some other Mediterranean fare. It’s a slightly off-the-beaten-track spot, over Diagonal, anyway, but not too far. Just don’t tell everyone, okay?

Sucursal Aceitera

With frontages onto two streets, Scursal offers cosy indoors dining and a few al fresco tables

Sucursal is another welcome addition to the burgeoning bar scene in Parlament, even if the address is Comte Borrell (it’s on the corner).

Sucursal offers the expected tapas standards done well, alongside some more imaginative fare, and a focus on organic produce. With a good selection of wines by the glass and lovely big windows that are opened up on nice days, it is one of Parlament’s better tapas bets.

Scursal does the expected tapas favorites, and much more besides

A recent extension has seen a more formal restaurant section added (the original bar remains unchanged), and I like that too. The décor is lovely, and the service very good too.

Keep an eye out for the extraordinarily good-value set lunches – three choices each for starter, main and dessert with a drink all for less than €20? Win.
