Sucursal Aceitera

With frontages onto two streets, Scursal offers cosy indoors dining and a few al fresco tables

Sucursal is another welcome addition to the burgeoning bar scene in Parlament, even if the address is Comte Borrell (it’s on the corner).

Sucursal offers the expected tapas standards done well, alongside some more imaginative fare, and a focus on organic produce. With a good selection of wines by the glass and lovely big windows that are opened up on nice days, it is one of Parlament’s better tapas bets.

Scursal does the expected tapas favorites, and much more besides

A recent extension has seen a more formal restaurant section added (the original bar remains unchanged), and I like that too. The décor is lovely, and the service very good too.

Keep an eye out for the extraordinarily good-value set lunches – three choices each for starter, main and dessert with a drink all for less than €20? Win.

Quimet y Quimet

Apparently the tiny, no seats, Quimet y Quimet is in every tourist guide. This is good and bad. Good, because the tapas they create from behind the miniscule bar is good – some of it is even great. Bad, because the crowd is almost entirely tourists (including this boy, I guess), and the atmosphere can seem somewhat lacking.

I’ve seen Chinese tourists drinking Coke and screwing up their noses at some of the food, and even an American couple who arrived wheeling suitcases in. My advice? Pop in for a bite and a drink or two, and head off for a proper meal elsewhere.

Caravelle

Okay, so the whole home-made produce thing and casual setting may scream hipster, but I’m not complaining: they have their own-label craft beer, their own smoked and cured pork products, and house-made pickles too. That means the burger is pretty fabulous (though it’s a double cheeseburger, so go hungry).

Caravelle also does a fantastic brunch, with plenty of eggy options for those slow-start days.
